The predecessor of the School of Marxism was the Political Theory Teaching and Research Section of Henan University established in 1950. After that, it went through the Marxism-Leninism Teaching and Research Section, the Marxism-Leninism Teaching and Research Department, and the Marxism-Leninist Education and Research Department. In September 2013, the school adjusted the subject of Marxist theory, and the subject of Marxist theory relied on the School of Marxism for construction. In the fourth round of national discipline evaluation organized by the Degree Center of the Ministry of Education in 2017, our school's Marxist theory discipline was tied for 47th and B grade. In October 2018, the Propaganda Department of the Henan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and Henan University jointly established the School of Marxism. In January 2019, the school appointed Xu Guangchun, director of the Marxist Theoretical Research and Construction Engineering Advisory Committee of the CPC Central Committee and former secretary of the Henan Provincial Party Committee of the Communist Party of China, as the dean of the Marxist Research Institute. In February 2019, the college was selected as the first batch of key Marxist college construction units in Henan Province. In November 2019, the school and Jiao Yulu Cadre College jointly established the Jiao Yulu Spiritual Research Institute.
The college has six teaching and research sections, including the Department of Ideological and Political Education and Introduction to Basic Principles of Marxism, Introduction to Mao Zedong Thought and the Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, Outline of Modern Chinese History, Ideological and Moral Cultivation and Legal Basis, Situation and Policy. It has research institutions such as the Marxist Academy and a training base for teachers of ideological and political theory courses in colleges and universities in Henan Province.

The college has established a complete talent training system from undergraduate to doctoral degree. It has a doctoral degree authorization point for the basic principles of Marxism, and the first-level disciplines of Marxist theory (including the basic principles of Marxism, the history of Marxism, the study of Marxism in China, foreign Marxism 8 secondary disciplines, including ethical research, ideological and political education, basic issues of modern Chinese history, research on internal party laws and regulations, and cadre education) master’s degree authorization point, master of education (discipline teaching · ideological and political) professional degree authorization point, In addition, one major including philosophy of science and technology enrolls master students. Among them, the first-level subject of Marxist theory is a key subject in Henan Province, and the undergraduate major of ideological and political education (including the direction of cadre education) is a specialty of Henan Province. The college currently has more than 180 doctoral and master candidates and more than 450 undergraduates.
Teachers of the college have successively published more than 100 papers in high-level academic journals such as "Chinese Social Sciences", "Marxist Studies", "Political Studies", "Philosophical Studies", and "World Religious Studies". The college has successively approved more than 100 national, provincial and ministerial projects, published 98 academic monographs, and won more than 30 Provincial Social Science Outstanding Achievement Awards and many other awards.
